Syfy is making a Wizard of Oz series. Again.
According to Deadline, Syfy is going to make a reimagining of The Wizard of Oz. If those words didn’t send a chill down your spine, then you are made of tougher stuff than I. They’ve tapped Timur Bekmambetov, the director of Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, to produce and maybe direct The Warriors of Oz. I assume that your spine has been properly chilled by now, but it gets better:
A warrior from present day Earth is transported to a post-apocalyptic future Oz where he must team up with three other warriors, Heartless, Brainless, and Coward, in order to defeat the evil Wizard who has enslaved the land.
Doubtless, there will be gangs of monkeys on flying motorcycles, and their rivals the leather-clad Wheelers. I suspect Syfy has lost its memory, because I know that they made Tin Man. It was a mini-series where Zooey Deschanel teamed up with the tin man, a man who could turn into a dog, and a telepathic part-man part-lion to defeat the wicked witch and her monkeys.
It didn’t make a whole lot of sense, but it still makes more sense than Oz Beyond The Thunderdome. I think Hollywood needs a timeout. Everyone (save for those trying to adapt Wicked, they can carry on) needs to step away from the Oz series for about 10 years, and go develop some other properties. Honestly, the more reimaginings, sequels, prequels, and adaptions you make the more I like the 1939 movie.
